NJIHC Annual Congress Save the Date 3-22-25

New Brunswick, NJ – The New Jersey Italian Heritage Commission (NJIHC) is pleased to announce its Annual Congress, which will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Busch Student Center at Rutgers University. The event promises to be an enriching gathering, bringing together educators, artists, experts, community leaders, and advocates of Italian heritage to share important updates and celebrate the contributions of Italian arts, culture, and history.

This year’s Congress will spotlight the Commission’s groundbreaking K-12 Italian Heritage Curriculum, designed to integrate Italian cultural and historical topics into schools across New Jersey. Highlights of the curriculum include engaging lessons on Italian art, music, literature, history, and their profound impact on global culture.

“As a state committed to celebrating diversity and heritage, the NJIHC is proud to provide this comprehensive resource to our schools,” said Margaret Fontana, Executive Director of the Commission. “Our Annual Congress is an opportunity to showcase our progress, inspire collaboration, present new perspectives, and chart the course for future educational initiatives.”

The NJIHC’s mission is to preserve, promote, and protect the rich heritage of Italians and Italian Americans. By fostering awareness and understanding, the Commission seeks to ensure that Italian contributions to society—past and present—remain an integral part of New Jersey’s cultural fabric.

The Commission’s vision is to see a future where Italian heritage is a celebrated and enduring part of New Jersey’s educational and cultural identity. Its goals include:

  • Enhancing educational resources on Italian heritage for educators and students.
  • Building partnerships with community organizations and institutions.
  • Celebrating Italian contributions to the arts, sciences, and humanities.
